South Carolina’s 2020 recruiting class has been trimmed down a spot as North Mecklenburg High School standout Da’Qon Stewart has announced his decommitment from Will Muschamp’s program.

The three-star receiver from Huntersville, NC, had been committed to South Carolina dating back to January of 2019 but considering he did not sign with the Gamecocks during the Early Signing Period, this news can’t be much of a surprise to the Gamecock program.

Stewart announced the news on Twitter with the following statement:

“First off, I would like to thank God for every blessing he has blessed me with and every door he has opened for me and the doors He will continue to open for me. Secondly, I would like to thank Coach Muschamp and his staff for offering and believing in me before anybody else. Lastly, I wanna thank my family and coaches for sticking by me on this journey but after much prayer and thought…. at this time, I feel that it’s best for me to decommit from USC and reopen my recruitment.”

During the Early Signing Period, South Carolina signed four-star receivers Mike Wyman and Rico Powers Jr. Considering the Gamecocks still have a few spots open in the 2020 recruiting cycle, don’t be surprised if they look to add another receiver by the time National Signing Day arrives.
