Dowell Loggains, former South Carolina OC, officially announced as head coach of FBS program

Dowell Loggains, who served as South Carolina’s offensive coordinator this season, will officially be the next head coach at Appalachian State University. This news comes after reports that Loggains was being targeted by App State earlier Saturday morning.

Loggains will take over for Shawn Clark, who was surprisingly let go after posting a 5-6 record this season. Clark coached the Mountaineers to 10 wins in 2021 and 9 wins in 2022.
Now, the Mountaineers are taking a step forward with a coach who has succeeded on the offensive side of the ball at numerous stops in the NFL and college. He’s made stops with the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans. Loggains has primarily worked as an offensive coordinator, and this new gig with Appalachian State will be his first stint as a head coach.
Loggains served as South Carolina’s offensive coordinator this season, posting fantastic numbers with QB LaNorris Sellers under center – especially as of late. South Carolina has won 6 straight games, thanks in part to Sellers finding his groove in SEC play.
App State has routinely been one of the better G5 programs in the country. We’ll see if Loggains can get the Mountaineers back to that status.
