Dowell Loggains and South Carolina quarterbacks recently received a special note from Connor Shaw.

Shaw, who was the Gamecocks’ QB from 2011 to 2014, wrote about the team’s matchup this weekend against No. 24 Clemson. Shaw led South Carolina to an 11-2 record and a win over Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl in 2014.

Loggains coached Shaw when Loggains was the QB coach for the Cleveland Browns in 2014 and the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2016.

“He wrote how much he appreciates the guys’ representation of ‘Block-C’ and what is it to be a Gamecock,” Loggains said at his press conference on Wednesday. “That was really cool to come in and see that note from a guy that is as tough of a guy as I’ve ever coached. He’s a gamer and an unbelievable person.”

Loggains said that Shaw has had high praise for senior QB Spencer Rattler throughout the 2023 season and his career.

“To get his approval of how Spencer (Rattler) has played this year is probably more important than my approval of Spencer,” Loggains said. “This is a guy that’s walked in his shoes and walked at a high level.”

In 11 games so far this season, Rattler has 3,074 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

“(Rattler) is extremely professional. He cares about his teammates deeply and doesn’t get tired of doing the right thing,” Loggains said. “He’s on time and prepared. He’s become the leader of the team.

South Carolina (5-6) hosts Clemson (7-4) this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on the SEC Network.
