On top of adjusting from the switch of college to the NFL, Israel Mukuamu is shifting his focus from being a primary cornerback to safety with the Dallas Cowboys. Former Dallas Cowboys safety Barry Church says he likes what he has seen from the former South Carolina Gamecock.

“This guy looked fluid. I’m talking about from the breaks – there were no false steps, he wasn’t stepping in the bucket,” Church said on the Cowboys’ official Twitter account.

“Everything seemed to be a positive movement with this guy. His hips were extremely fluid and he had great ball skills. You know the coaches during those drills, they like to fire it and this guy was catching everything. He looked extremely fluid. When they were doing the mirror, the receiver drills as a press coverage technique, he was extremely comfortable like he was out there before. That has to come from his cornerback background at South Carolina.”

Church notes that it is early to get excited but he sees Mukuamu fitting in well at safety.

“I love what I see in this guy,” Church said. “I know it’s early and everyone looks great when you just have shorts and a helmet on and everyone looks like they’re the best athlete in the world. From my time in the league, I can tell you that guy looks extremely fluid. I want to see what he can bring to the table for this defense, especially in that safety room where it seems to be up for grabs.”
