A former South Carolina cornerback is moving onto another NFL franchise before his first regular season.

After being cut by the Indianapolis Colts, rookie Darius Rush has been claimed off waivers by the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter.

Rush was selected by the Colts with the No. 138th pick in the 5th round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Rush was with the Colts through training camp and the preseason before being released on Tuesday.

Rush is described by Reese’s Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy as a “fast and long” cornerback.

The 6-foot-2, 198-pound Rush amassed 38 tackles, 7 pass breakup, 2 interceptions, and a forced fumble at South Carolina last season as a redshirt senior. During his redshirt junior campaign, Rush collected 25 tackles and 8 pass breakups, along with an interception.

Rush’s alma mater South Carolina begins the regular season with a Week 1 matchup vs. in-state rival North Carolina on Sept. 2 (7:30 p.m. EST/ABC).
