Have you ever wondered what it’s like to take an official virtual visit to South Carolina?

If so, you are in luck as the Gamecocks have decided to peel back the curtain on what goes on during a “trip” to the Columbia campus — at least in the virtual era of recruiting.

On Thursday, the NCAA announced the current dead period has been extended until Aug. 31. If you don’t follow recruiting closely, that decision means no college program is permitted to host recruits, either officially or unofficially until Aug. 31 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Coaches are also not allowed to hit the road to recruit, either.

Phone calls, texts, video chats and social media messages between coaches and prospects are allowed to continue without limitations.

Without the ability to host recruits or their families on campus, programs have been forced to get creative this offseason. That’s where virtual visits come in.

Instead of physically walking recruits around campus, coaches have been filming what the experience is like and sending that information to recruits and answering questions about the university and all its amenities along the way.
