Hayden Hurst will be out for the foreseeable future as he is dealing with Post Traumatic Amnesia, according to his father.

Hurst hasn’t played since the loss to the Chicago Bears on Nov. 9. The Carolina Panthers tight end took a hit while trying to catch a pass and hit his head on the ground hard and suffered a concussion.

Post Traumatic Amnesia happens after a brain injury and the person is unable to remember events shortly after the injury. Unfortunately, this is a part of the healing process after a brain injury like Hurst’s.

“Hayden Hurst has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Amnesia by an independent neurologist as a result of the hit he took in Chicago on November 9,” Jerry Hurst wrote in a social media post. “Slow recovery, don’t know when he’ll be back. Prayers appreciated!”

Hurst made his own post on social media on Thursday sharing how he’s doing. He said he didn’t remember up to 4 hours after the game.

“I appreciate everyone reaching out and checking on me,” Hayden wrote. “I suffered a pretty nasty concussion against the Bears a few weeks ago and don’t remember up to 4 hours after the game. Scary situation but the Panthers have been incredible walking me through this process.”

This was Hurst’s 1st season with Carolina after spending the 2022 season with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has also played for the Atlanta Falcons (2020-2021) and was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2018 NFL Draft out of South Carolina.
