Free agents have been landing deals around the NFL all week but one player that remains unsigned at this time is Jadeveon Clowney.

That’s not totally surprising considering the former Gamecock great isn’t coming off his best NFL season to date but most assumed there would be a market for the defender following his 2019 season, which resulted in 31 tackles, three sacks, an interception and four forced fumbles.

So why hasn’t Clowney landed a deal yet?

During Greg Cosell’s most recent appearance on “The Ross Tucker Podcast,” the NFL Films analyst shared his take on why Clowney has yet to be picked up by a team following the start of free agency.

“Jadeveon Clowney, while he’s a very solid player and can do a number of things well, is not a pure edge pass rusher — that’s not the strength of his game,” Cosell said on the show. “And we see pure edge pass rushers get paid, and he wants to get paid more than those guys are getting paid.

“We saw Dante Fowler get a really nice number from the Falcons, Fowler is a better edge pass rusher that Jadeveon Clowney. Clowney is an interesting player he’s a movement player he’s a scheme player. Houston found that out they moved him around their defensive front, he was a factor. I think Seattle found that out. I think they got him thinking he’d be a great edge pass rusher and that’s not the strength of his game.”

So there you have it, at least according to Cosell, Clowney may not have the market he thought he would entering free agency but the defender could still be a massive value if he goes to the right team this offseason.
