Kansas transfer DB Karon Prunty makes commitment decision between SEC East rivals
Shane Beamer landed a big decision on Saturday in the new Gamecocks coach’s recruitment efforts.
Kansas defensive back transfer and Freshman All-American Karon Prunty announced a commitment to South Carolina on Saturday night, as he picked the Gamecocks over Tennessee. Defensive back is a position of need for the Gamecocks, and Prunty is expected to deliver an immediate impact.
Prunty was named to the 247Sports True Freshman All-American Team after a 2020 season when the Portsmouth, Virginia native started all nine games for the Jayhawks. He held opponents to just a 38.5 percent completion rate when thrown against him, which ranked seventh in all of college football, while not allowing a single touchdown all season, according to a Kansas release.
Prunty also broke up 10 passes during the 2020 season, tied for the most among freshmen nationally and tied for sixth among all players, regardless of experience.
The Gamecocks were in a position to add key talent to the secondary after several major departures to the NFL and through the transfer portal.
