If you’re an NFL or South Carolina football fan, you know the name Deebo Samuel.

The rising fourth-year NFL star has been a lethal weapon for the San Fransisco 49ers during his time in the league. Samuel has 21 total touchdowns in his career, 14 of which came in 2021-22. Ten of Samuel’s touchdowns were receptions and 11 were rushing, validating his status as one of the most well-rounded offensive players in the NFC, alongside Cordarrelle Patterson in Atlanta.

There’s a catch for 49er fans, though. Samuel requested a trade from San Fransisco in April after the expiration of his contract. No trade has come, and Samuel reportedly attended mandatory workouts on June 7, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan commented on his relationship with Samuel recently.

“I think it has always been alright,” Shanahan said of the relationship in a press conference last week, via 247 Sports. “I don’t think the relationship was ever too far away to not get it back to normal. I think we are working on that. Anytime you are away from each other for a while, that is always harder. It is good to get him back in here and get him around the guys again.”

The team that starts Samuel Week 1 will be a happy one. Samuel was a key cog in the Niners’ Super Bowl berth in 2019 and has become one of the most dynamic players in the league.

That’s a guy you want to have around.
