South Carolina QB Luke Doty is facing some time off after he reportedly suffered a foot injury.
Doty suffered a mid-foot fracture and minor ligament damage after getting inadvertently stepped on late in practice Friday, Mike Gillespie of ABC-Columbia reported. Xrays, MRI and cat scan will be evaluated by outside team consultants.
Doty took over the starting job at the end of last season, and overall appeared in 8 games with a pair of starts. He completed 43-of-71 passes (60.6 percent) for 405 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions, and also rushed 41 times for 91 yards with a long of 17.
Coach Shane Beamer is expected to speak to reporters on Saturday evening after a Gamecocks scrimmage.
At SEC Media Days, Beamer discussed Doty.
“We’ve got good young talent at the quarterback position, but that’s what it is, it’s young. Luke Doty is the most experienced guy that we have,” Beamer said. “We named him our starter coming out of spring practice. He’s a guy that’s been in our program for a year.”
