Would Mack Brown be an option for the Gamecocks?
Could Mack Brown be the next head coach at South Carolina?
On Thursday, the former Texas head coach told Paul Finebaum that he would love to talk to the Gamecocks.

South Carolina is looking for a new coach following Steve Spurrier’s sudden resignation on Tuesday. Spurrier coached the Gamecocks for 10-plus seasons, posting an 86-49 record.
The last two times South Carolina hired a head coach, they brought in a leader who’d already won a national championship. Spurrier won the national championship at Florida in 1996, while Lou Holtz’s Notre Dame team won the title in 1988. Brown also has a national championship ring.

Brown led Texas to the BCS championship in 2005, when the Longhorns defeated Southern Cal 41-38. The Longhorns also played in the title game at the end of the 2009 season, when they lost 37-21 to Alabama. In 16 seasons at Texas, he compiled a record of 158-48 and won two Big 12 titles. Brown has also been the head coach at North Carolina, Tulane and Appalachian State, and has a career record of 244-122-1.
The 64-year-old Brown retired after the 2013 season. He is currently a college football analyst for ESPN.
In his interview with Finebaum, Brown said he was surprised that Spurrier had stepped down.
“You never know the circumstances because (Spurrier is) such a competitor,” Brown said. “I’ve seen him play golf and cards. He wants to win at everything he does. I was surprised he gave it up. I’m disappointed that he will not be in college football anymore as a head coach because we’re going to miss him.”
“Steve (Spurrier) is one (of) the best coaches to ever coach college football,” he added. “He’s already in the Hall of Fame as a player. He’ll obviously as soon as they can get him in as a coach … He does a wonderful job, from Duke to Florida, and South Carolina might’ve been his best job.”
Brown says he has not been contacted by the Gamecocks, or any other school, about returning to coaching.
