Marcus Satterfield and Spencer Rattler certainly took their share of criticism this fall as the South Carolina offensive coordinator, and the former Oklahoma quarterback struggled at times. So in his first message to Rattler, Satterfield offered a candid response.

“I told him, ‘Everybody in the country thinks you stink. Everybody in the country thinks I stink. Let’s go at this with the biggest possible chip on our shoulder,'” Satterfield recalled saying, per David Cloninger.

To Satterfield’s point, the Gamecocks finished the regular season No. 13 in the SEC in scoring offense, No. 12 in rushing offense, No. 13 in passing offense and No. 13 in total offense.

Rattler, meanwhile, Rattler was considered a candidate for the Heisman Trophy before this season began, but was replaced as the starter at Oklahoma by Caleb Williams, then Rattler said he was leaving the program when the year ended.

Rattler played in 9 games this season, and completed 140 of 187 passes for 1,483 yards, 11 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. It was quite a departure from 2020, when he threw for 3,031 yards.
