In what was a surprise for the Gamecock program, South Carolina managed to reach into North Carolina and land a commitment from four-star linebacker Mohamed Kaba on Thursday. Prior to his commitment to Will Muschamp’s program, Kaba was expected to pick N.C. State during a ceremony at his Clinton High School.

South Carolina’s latest win on the recruiting trail is a big one as Kaba is rated as a top 250 prospect nationally and a top 10 recruit from North Carolina according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Kaba picked also holds scholarship offers from Oklahoma and Tennessee.

After the North Carolina native made his decision, Will Muschamp sent out his trademark “Spurs Up!” tweet to confirm the program has accepted this commitment.

Following this news, South Carolina is now up to six commitments in the 2020 recruiting cycle with the Gamecocks holding pledges from four prospects rated as four-star recruits — Kaba joins quarterback Luke Doty, receiver Mike Wyman and offensive lineman Issiah Walker Jr. as elite prospects committed to the class. The Gamecocks currently have the nation’s No. 19 recruiting class, which ranks No. 7 in the SEC.
