Bad news from Raleigh, as the Wolfpack have just dismissed two players and suspended three others following allegations of sexual assault. All five players involved in the school’s punishment were freshmen.

Not the type of news any program likes to hear, especially considering N.C. State is heading into a big season opener against the Gamecocks in just a few days.

N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren released the following statement announcing the news, courtesy of CBS North Carolina WNCN:

“We had five freshmen, two of whom have been dismissed, who made poor decisions that don’t align with the values of our program and each has been handled accordingly. Although I’ve disciplined these players for violations of the Student Athlete Code of Conduct, I want to make it clear that I respect due process in the University and legal proceedings. Our players understand that I’m going be firm, but fair when it comes to discipline.”

The players dismissed were Antoine Thompson and Kevince Brown, while Isaiah Moore, Erin Collins and Xavier Lyas have been suspended.

According to WNCN, the players were at an on-campus party on July 21. The next day, N.C. State police allegedly received three reports of sexual assault. All five players are believed to be present for the party.

N.C. State and South Carolina meet Saturday, Sept. 2 in Charlotte to open the 2017 season.
