Nick Barrett, a 6-foot-4, 320-pound defensive tackle, became the Gamecocks 4th commitment for the class of 2021 Wednesday night.

Barrett (Goldsboro, N.C.) is rated a 3-star prospect and ranks as the nation’s No. 54 overall defensive tackle and the state of North Carolina’s No. 54 prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. He committed to the Gamecocks over offers from Duke, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, East Carolina and Liberty, among others.

He shared his commitment on Twitter:

“First off, I would like to thank God because if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here,” Barrett said in a message in his social media announcement. “Secondly, I would like to thank my family and friends for the endless support. Also, I would like to thank Coach Oates and Coach Harper for helpoignme becomes he player I am today. With that being said, I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of South Carolina.”

Barrett became South Carolina’s first defensive line commitment for 2021. He joins 3-star quarterback Colten Gauthier, unranked receiver Sam Reynolds and unranked cornerback Marcellas Dial.
