Ray Tanner will be with the Gamecocks a few more years as the South Carolina athletics director received a 2-year contract extension through 2026, the school announced. His previous contract was set to expire in June 2024.

While Tanner has been the AD, the Gamecocks have won national championships in equestrian (2014) and women’s basketball (2017, 2022), 17 SEC tournament and regular season championships. Also, every program during Tanner’s tenure has received a new or significantly upgraded practice or competition facility.

Tanner’s most recent high-profile decisions were the coaching transitions of Will Muschamp to Shane Beamer, and Frank Martin to Lamont Paris in football and men’s basketball.

The football team went 7-6 and 8-5 the last 2 seasons, with a Duke’s Mayo Bowl win, and a Gator Bowl loss. The Gamecocks were ranked No. 23 in the final AP Top 25 poll, and are expected to be ranked this preseason.

Paris and the men’s basketball team finished 11-21 this past season after Martin coached the Gamecocks for 10 seasons.

Tanner was named AD in 2012 after 16 seasons as the Gamecocks’ baseball coach.
