Part of every coaching hiring is sorting out the staff. A new head coach’s typical staff includes a mix of assistants he worked with at his previous stop, retained assistants from the program’s previous staff and new outside hires.

Ben Breiner of The State reported Thursday that Shane Beamer’s South Carolina staff will not include Rod Wilson.

“Of note, confirmed Rod Wilson won’t be back,” Breiner tweeted. “Looking more and more like you’re gonna have four holdovers (Kitchings, Bobo, Peterson, Rocker).

A South Carolina alum, Wilson joined Will Muschamp’s staff as the new linebackers coach on Feb. 21, 2020. He spent the previous three seasons on the Kansas City Chiefs staff as Assistant Special Teams Coach.

Wilson first got into coaching in 2013 after a six-year playing career in the NFL. He was on Charleston Southern’s for four seasons (2013-16), coaching safeties, inside linebackers and assisting with special teams.
