Report: South Carolina takes action to trademark 'Spurs Up'
Will Muschamp and South Carolina are such big fans of the slogan “Spurs Up” that the school is reportedly attempting to trademark the saying.
After bringing the trademark to Columbia soon after his hiring, Muschamp has used the slogan as a rallying cry to celebrate accomplishments like gaining a commitment to named program tours after the unofficial school slogan. Thanks to foresight from school officials, the slogan is expected to be the property of South Carolina in the near future.
According to Chris Clark of Gamecock Central, South Carolina has taken action to secure the “Spurs Up” slogan by registering a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The action was taken last spring, shortly after Muschamp was hired, and is expected to be finalized before the 2017 season kicks off.
The official Gamecock Football Twitter account has #SpursUp in its bio and the slogan can often be seen in promotional videos put out by the school:

Not only is #SpursUp often used by the school but it has caught on with fans, players and, arguably most important, with recruits.
