Ever since taking over as the head coach at South Carolina, Shane Beamer has had some trouble keeping staffers around.

First, Auburn’s Bryan Harsin hired away a couple of key assistants. Then, some others left for other vacancies. Now, he’s losing a key off-field staffer to the NFL.

Per a report from FootballScoop.com, Drew Hughes — the South Carolina director of player personnel — is heading to the Jacksonville Jaguars to work with new coach Urban Meyer and GM Trent Baalke:

It’s been a whirlwind for Hughes, who left Tennessee more than a year ago and well before Jeremy Pruitt was fired amidst an investigation for recruiting improprieties. Hughes spent a year on Will Muschamp’s South Carolina staff, had the option to remain on new coach Shane Beamer’s staff but was lured away by Texas and Sarkisian.

When that move hit a snag due simply to Hughes’ long-ended tenure on Rocky Top, Baalke and the Jaguars moved in to tab Hughes, who has time previously at Alabama and Florida and is seemingly universally respected by peers.

So, now Beamer’s staff seemingly has another opening on it. We’ll see who he decides to hire to replace Hughes, and if that person will stick around through the end of the 2021 campaign, at least.
