According to a report from GoGamecocks, South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp has decided on a starting quarterback for the Gamecocks’ upcoming contest versus Mississippi State.

Muschamp will opt for experience (Orth) over youth (McIlwain) against the Bulldogs. In the season opening 13-10 victory over Vanderbilt, Orth was the more efficient option — going 11-of-19 for 152 yards. McIlwain was more effective in terms of running the football, but struggled somewhat in the passing game.

Mississippi State is looking to bounce back from an embarrassing home loss against South Alabama. Dan Mullen’s team will surely want to atone for that loss in its first conference game of the season.

As such, Orth’s experience should help to combat expected loud and menacing Starkville atmosphere.
