Ryan Hilinski’s time in Columbia has come to an end.

The former elite quarterback prospect never got much of a chance to show what he could do this season in Mike Bobo’s offense and once Shane Beamer made the decision to retain the Gamecock offensive coordinator, Hilinski’s transfer from the program seemed inevitable.

After making the decision to leave South Carolina, Hilinski posted a statement thanking South Carolina fans for all the support he and his family have received upon his arrival in Columbia. Hilinski was a fan-favorite during his time in Columbia and his family moved with him to South Carolina from California after he signed with the Gamecocks.

During his true freshman season in Columbia, Hilinski started the final 11 games of the season after senior Jake Bentley was lost for the season in the 2019 opener against North Carolina.

Hilinski will finish his Gamecock career with 2,391 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Hilinski signed with South Carolina after being rated as the No. 2 pro-style QB in the nation in the 2019 recruiting cycle and signed with the program over scholarship offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, among many others.

Here is the statement Hilinski issued following his decision to enter the transfer portal:
