Shane Beamer announced on Tuesday that starting quarterback Luke Doty is out for the season after he re-injured an earlier foot injury on Saturday against Vanderbilt.

“He’s going to have surgery later this week, to get everything cleaned and fixed and be better long term,” Beamer said. “We’ve met with some specialists over the last couple days. He will be done for the year.”

Beamer previously announced that Zeb Noland would start this week at Texas A&M. Noland came in at the end of the Vanderbilt game and rescued the Gamecocks to a last-minute win with a long scoring drive.

Beamer said Jason Brown will be the No. 2 quarterback with Doty out for the year, and Colten Gauthier has been really impressive with the scout team. Beamer said there aren’t any plans to move Dakereon Joyner back to quarterback.

Beamer said Doty was in great spirits at practice and in meetings this week. He’s not sure of the long-term prognosis until the surgery is finished, in terms of next spring or beyond.
