Shane Beamer understands the challenge that awaits the Gamecocks this week at Georgia. Beamer recalled how difficult it was to communicate at Georgia 2 years ago.

Beamer said he hopes South Carolina players would understand the atmosphere expected at Sanford Stadium as it’s a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff in Athens on CBS, traditionally a unique environment in the SEC.

“A lot of these guys, all on our team were highly-recruited guys,” Beamer said. “Maybe went to a game as a recruit at Georgia, they came here, they went to other SEC games … This will be a rocking environment.”

Beamer believes all of the SEC road games for the Gamecocks this season, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Missouri will be similar environments.

“It’s the SEC,” he said. “(If) you don’t want to play in front of 90,000, 100,000-seat fans, you should have gone and played in another conference. We don’t go and play in stadiums where there’s 20,000 or 30,000 people in the stands for a conference game. This is the SEC, so our guys should embrace that.”

Beamer was asked about a fast start early, and a reporter noted that in South Carolina’s 2 road wins in the SEC under Beamer, the Gamecocks got a strong start.

“It’s critical,” he said. “We’ve had games where we didn’t get off on a good start on the road to say the least, and it’ll be critical for us as well.”

Starting fast, though, is easier said than done against Georgia and “anybody” on the road, Beamer said.
