Shane Beamer comments on departure of special teams coordinator Pete Lembo
Shane Beamer shared a message of support for former South Carolina special teams coordinator Pete Lembo on Sunday afternoon.
Lembo spent the past 3 seasons as South Carolina’s special teams coordinator. However, as ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported, Lembo is leaving South Carolina for the Buffalo head coaching job.
Lembo was a Day 1 staff member during the Beamer era in Columbia and will be difficult to replace. Here was Beamer’s congratulatory message to Lembo after the news became official:
Congrats Pistol Pete !!!!!!
Incredible opportunity for you …You made our program better on and off the field
This position in Columbia is EXTREMELY attractive to so many now because of it …Although the new coach will never be able to reach your level of nickname usage on… https://t.co/WyIxn6Ku6D

Lembo has previous head coaching experience at Ball State, Elon and Lehigh. He will now take over a Buffalo program that is replacing the departed Maurice Linguist, who left for a job on Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama coaching staff.
Special teams has been a real strength for South Carolina with Lembo and Beamer leading the charge on that front. The Gamecocks ranked in the top-12 of SP+’s special teams ratings in all 3 seasons. In 2022, the Gamecocks finished No. 1 nationally in that category.
South Carolina will now begin a search to find its special teams coordinator for the 2024 season.
