Shane Beamer explains what he liked, didn't like from first half vs. Mississippi State
Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks started strong against Mississippi State Saturday night.
But the Bulldogs started to inch back into things following a quick 14-0 start from Spencer Rattler and USC. Will Rogers dialed into things and started connecting on the deep ball. At the half South Carolina leads 20-17.
Beamer was pleased with some things and not so pleased with others. For one, he liked South Carolina’s ability to rush the ball., sitting at 125 rushing yards on the ground thus far.
For another, he didn’t like the Gamecocks not being able to pressure Rogers to help out his secondary, who were letting balls over their heads more than he would like to have seen.
“I love the way they’re playing They’re playing physical, we’re running the ball decently. Our biggest issue right now is we can’t cover them and we can’t get pressure on the quarterback,” Beamer said at the half. “We’ve got 2 great quarterbacks in this game, when Will Rogers is able to sit back in the pocket for like 8 seconds and throw deeps balls over our defenders heads, we’re gonna be a long night.”
