Shane Beamer regularly sends a message to the South Carolina fan base, media and Gamecock Nation about needing to find joy. In this case, Beamer on Tuesday reiterated comments from Saturday after the lackluster win over Jacksonville State when his own family and fans found problems in the victory.

He went on about a 4-minute rant.

“At the end of the day, we won the football game,” Beamer said. “And then we are going to celebrate that, which is what we did. It is still OK to be happy and celebrate a win, but be disappointed in how you played, and be critical of how we played.”

Criticism is one thing.

“But I don’t think it’s OK to be unhappy and miserable after a win,” he said. “Players or coaches or fans. We have the greatest fans in America, and if they walked out of that stadium on Saturday critical of me, that’s OK. I deserved it. Disappointed in how we played and didn’t look great, absolutely. They’re exactly right. But I would hope that if you’re a Gamecock fan, that you didn’t walk out of that stadium miserable and unhappy because we won the football game.”

Beamer pointed to the 7 home games each season to gather with family and friends, and how Saturday had beautiful weather in Columbia.

“Don’t take that for granted,” he said.

Reflecting back on his trademark phrase, Beamer said if the Gamecocks won on a beautiful day, and someone was still miserable, “You probably do need to find some joy, and celebrate wins a little bit more as well.”
