Shane Beamer offers strong response to rumors about South Carolina play-calling in Tennessee game
South Carolina OC Marcus Satterfield hasn’t been too popular with the Gamecock fanbase during his time in Columbia. Satterfield’s unit, though, broke out in a big way Saturday night.
South Carolina’s 63 points against Tennessee are the most it has scored in an SEC game since 1995 in a win over 65-39 Mississippi State.
The Gamecock offense gained 606 yards in the win, scoring all 9 touchdowns. There are apparently rumors in online communities that Satterfield did not call the offensive plays in the game.
Speaking on his Sunday media teleconference, Beamer called the rumor “ridiculous.” The head coach confirmed Satterfield called every play.
Beamer asked about online rumblings that Marcus Satterfield wasn’t calling the plays last night:
“He called every single play. And that’s what kills me. Were these people on the headset?…That’s the most ridiculous thing we’ve ever heard.”

Satterfield’s critics are certainly hoping that his unit can find similar success against No. 7 Clemson on Saturday.
If that’s true it’s even worse.

Regardless of the miraculous upset against Tennessee, Satterfield still needs to be replaced with a proven OC.
Agreed..I don’t normally sit around on Sunday rewatching a game but I watched Carolina/Vols and a good bit of Carolina’s other games. We all saw the same game last night. Your comments are right on..Great win but totally unexpected…
He usc beats Clemson you better not replace him. However, Rattler played like a champion vs Tennessee and he really didn’t do it in a lot of other games.

Agreed Satterfield has to go. The Gamecock nation has no confidence in him. But, if he did call the plays Saturday, he should be commended, but too late to save his job.. The other issues is the O-line finally stepped up and did their job, kudos to them, but can they replicate that performance against Clemson? If the o-line comes to play this week, Rattler will pick the Clemson defense apart.
Tennessee was pretty easy scout defensively. Secondary has been weak all year. There were multiple QBs that had their game of the year against TN. Vols offense usually evened it out, however they didn’t have it like like they did against everyone not named Georgia. I hope SC plays like that against Clemson.
The players fumbled the ball on three straight possessions…I mean for the love of god, what’s Satterfield supposed to do about that.

Kitchens tells Satterfield what play to call. Sattefield then calls the play. It’s possible both things are true. There is no way Sattsy called that game. It goes against his personality. He is so risk averse, he considers it edgy to ask for extra mayonnaise on his bologna and Wonder Bread sandwiches.
Nothing wrong with Bologna and Wonder Bread sandwiches, especially with mayo. Without them I would have starved as a kid. Well, we had Holsom Bread.

Could be a nice combination of going for broke with play calling and having a player in the groove. Either of those things alone can be decent without the other but combined (against an underwhelming defense no less) it can be masterful.

Tennessee has had a penchant for making QBs look like All-stars the last couple years, especially. That said, I’m not sure what exactly is being alleged here. If he’s not calling the plays, then who is? Again, allegedly…
But aside from UT’s defensive shortcomings, Rattler came out like a man possessed! Haven’t seen him play like that, well, ever…

Satterfield probably did call all the plays, as he was fighting for his job. It’s amazing what one can do when he is on the brink of getting fired. Gotta agree that his time in Columbia should be short now.

For real? That’s the most ridiculous thing Beamer has ever heard. I would fully expect the OC called the plays given that is his job but is it really that ridiculous of a suggestion that someone else was calling the plays? That was a vastly different approach. Finally used all the weapons at his disposal and this with the top two RB’s out. They did something they haven’t remotely done all season and it’s not like they took a step back on offense from 2021. Come on man.

I honestly hope not. I still think that he is an amazing talent when he has time to scan and throw.
Our passing attack was non-existent the first eight games. I don’t know who to blame. Our receiving corps not open? Rattler not staying in the pocket with knee jerk reactions to scramble too early? O-line? OC? I’ve watch every game and Rattler was scrambling constantly until we played the Vols.
Best o-line play all year. That definitely had a say in the outcome.
sometimes it’s just funny what some people come up with. It is so subjective. The OC calls plays that don’t work and he is a bum. He calls plays that do work and Oliver Stone comes out of the woodwork screaming conspiracy! It must have been someone else calling the plays! What nonsense.
Satterfield has been under the gun all year. SC has a lack of depth in most positions and when someone gets hurt, it makes the team pretty easy to figure out. Saturday night SC did not have a run game with the #1 and #2 running backs out. So the Gamecocks came out throwing. Great night for Rattler and SC. I guess my question is why Tenn didn’t react to the obvious lack of a SC running game at the beginning of the game. Rattler’s history at SC has been when under pressure he has the tendency to turn the ball over or at the very least take a sack, and that didn’t happen Saturday night.
Satterfield under the gun….you bet he is. But maybe he finally figured out Rattler and adjusted. Or, maybe Rattler was showing us he hates the color orange! Great! What perfect timing as another orange team is next!
I don’t really know what was going on with our defense . It seemed more than just having an off day for sure. That being said , everyone blames the coaches when things don’t go well. Most of the time , it’s the players not doing what they’re supposed to do or just stinking at it in general . Rattler was making throws on a rope last night. Dude was on another level.
Sometimes adversity, such as injuries, helps a team find something great that they didn’t know they had. And sometimes teams fold under the pressure. It could be that simple. You have a great running back, of course you try to run 30 to 40 times. Now you don’t. Oh look, you have a pretty good qb and some really stout wideouts and tight ends. Props to the o line for Saturday too. Some of y’all should remember though, that these are kids playing a game. Keep getting better boys! (And coaches) lol.

Just wondering if Pete Lembo had a hand in this? Hear me out. I watched the whole game and I noticed almost every time USC was on offense Lembo was in Beamers ear. I recorded the game and watched it again yesterday and I saw the exact same thing. Since when is the special teams guru , with an amazing mind, so in the ear of the HC when the team is on offense? Don’t believe me? Go back and watch the game again. Maybe, just maybe…… and it does not hurt that the o-line had their best game of the year.
I really like Beamer, but his emotion settings are “Off” and “100%.” Everything is not an attack. Everyone isn’t questioning your integrity.
