Shane Beamer is the rare coach to have recent wins over national championship-winning coaches Jimbo Fisher, Mack Brown and Dabo Swinney, who are in the group of 5 active coaches with national titles.
Beamer’s children are aware of that stat, but also reminded him that the South Carolina coach hasn’t beaten Georgia’s Kirby Smart, and he added, “They do a good job of keeping me humble.”
“Great people,” Beamer said of the recipe to win those games. “Those wins that we had over those fantastic, Hall of Fame coaches that you’re referring to took all 3 phases and everybody in our program as well. So for us, it’s going to be to continue to recruit great players, bring great people into our program.”
Beamer then found a common theme to all of the games.
“In those games, North Carolina, Texas A&M and Clemson are the 3 you’re referring to, you look at it, and we had impactful plays on all those games on special teams, defense and offense, and that’s what it takes to beat a great team like that, great coaches, great programs,” Beamer said.
Beamer said to continue the momentum, it will be to continue to recruit great players and develop the culture.
