Shane Beamer reports that MarShawn Lloyd has had a great summer, and is ready for a big season for South Carolina.

“He’s on a mission and has really stepped up his game this summer,” Beamer said. “MarShawn’s always been all business, but he realizes that it’s his time.”

Lloyd appeared in all 12 regular season games last year as a redshirt freshman but missed the Duke’s Mayo Bowl because of injury. He had 64 carries for 228 rushing yards and one touchdown. He also caught 3 passes for 44 yards out of the backfield.

For the rest of the group, Beamer said Christian Beal-Smith brings maturity, leadership and experience.

“I’m eager to see how that group shakes out from a competition standpoint,” Beamer said. “Because there’s a lot of unique skillsets in that room. … There’s a different vibe in that room, not that they weren’t all business, but when you’ve guys like MarShawn and CBS, and then you add Juju to that.”

He said the competition will be strong, and not just from the backfield, but could others help the Gamecocks by being split out wide, or in the passing game?

“That’s a great group, and there’ll be some great competition in there in this preseason camp,” Beamer said.
