Shane Beamer says he was not surprised at fast start: 'We've got a group of fighters'
Shane Beamer was not surprised that South Carolina came out strong against Georgia, and said after the game, “We’ve got a group of fighters.”
Beamer noted how the Gamecocks understood that “a lot of people thought this would be lopsided by halftime but we didn’t. We gave ourselves opportunities to win this game but didn’t get it done. At the same time, we know what we can do as we improve.”
Beamer pointed to “too many mistakes in the second half. Our kids fought their butts off but didn’t play clean football.”
About Juice Wells’ injury, which Beamer reported during the game on CBS was a broken bone in his foot, Beamer said, “We’re going to let him see a specialist this week. Doesn’t think it’s season-ending. We’ll know a lot more on Tuesday.”
Beamer after the loss was pleased with players at multiple positions, including the young wide receivers and defensive lineman TJ Sanders, who Beamer said “is tough to handle for anybody we’re going to play.”
About a lack of turnovers, Beamer said he wants the Gamecocks to do a better job at attacking the ball and pulling it out.

A loss is a loss.
Versus #1 or #101 it is about the same, though I think the difference was in the second half adjustments
This is short sighted big time, the national game of week unranked usc was in the game until the very end. We were not blown out on national tv lost by 10 as a 26.5 dog. Recruits saw this and it will help keeping and improving this class.
Agreed regards adjustments. I am just stunned by SC’s utter refusal to use the middle of the field….just awful, bordering on coaching cowardice. The stark differences in coordinators between SC and GA was made clear today.
Agreed also. Rattler took off running and proved he has moves. Do the Connor Shaw. Can’t throw it then RUN it. As to adjustments I’d brought in Seller’s for a couple plays. Something..Anything to score…
We had them right where we wanted them – but The Dawgs took over the 2nd half. Kudos to them
GO COCKS
Good game to SC. They definitely had more fight in them than GA the first half.
I like Beamer; he is a good coach.
SC will be a force to be reckoned with this season.
Net-net, the Gamecocks played well yesterday….against a very good GA team, they proved that they belong on the same field with, and can hold their own against, any team in college football. The OL especially seems to have solidified a bit and the DL really played well. For the Gamecocks to take the next step, they must adopt a “riskier” approach on offense…they must commit to using the entire field and lay off of their obsession with the perimeters. The young players look very good, and there are many reasons for optimism…but schematically, SC has got to amp it up.
