South Carolina coach Shane Beamer opened his press conference on a relaxed note by announcing that Darude the creator of Sandstorm will be performing prior to the Gamecocks Nov. 18 game with Kentucky.

With the start of classes a few days away, the Gamecocks finished preseason camp last Saturday and as they begin to prepare for the regular season, Beamer addressed his team’s game preparation.

This week is mock game week, according to Beamer. “We’re doing everything this week just like we will next week when we play North Carolina,” he said.

A week like this gives the Gamecocks an opportunity to acclimate to the weekly rigors of game preparation.

“It’s great to run through this so our guys understand how we practice, and how we meet, and with new coaches, they understand the routine,” Beamer said.

Defensively, Beamer feels comfortable with that side of the ball. The secondary is solid with last season’s starters and his linebackers. A better run defense is expected. “I like our depth at linebacker, it’s a solid group,” Beamer said.

South Carolina opens the season against North Carolina in Charlotte on Sep 2.
