After a tune-up win over Troy, South Carolina is getting back into its SEC play in Week 6 against Tennessee.

On Sunday, Shane Beamer held his weekly teleconference with members of the media. The Gamecocks head coach had good news on the team’s injury situation, per John Whittle of The Big Spur.

“Cam Smith had a little bit of a hit to the head and we held him out as a precaution, and he should be fine this week,” Beamer said on the call.

Smith, a cornerback, was injured in the first half of the Troy game. Nickel Carlins Platel suited up for the Troy game but did not play.

“Carlins Platel, he didn’t play because of a leg bruise, and he should be back,” Beamer told reporters.

The Gamecocks were also without starting left guard Jaylen Nichols in the Troy game.

“Jaylen Nichols has a bit of an ankle,” Beamer said on the teleconference. “We’re hopeful that he’ll be back.”

Beamer added that he had one new injury to share.

“The only thing really new from yesterday was Ahmarean Brown has a bit of a wrist sprain that affects his ability to catch the ball,” Beamer said on the media call. “He was out at practice tonight and looked fine.”
