Shane Beamer will have to bid one of his oldest players farewell after Saturday’s game at Clemson.

Dakeron Joyner, who has been at South Carolina since 2018, will play his final game at Wiliams-Brice Stadium, and potentially his last game for South Carolina, on Saturday against Clemson. The running back has been an anchor for the team for many years, sticking around for 3 different head coaches.

Beamer spoke about Joyner’s legacy during his press conference on Tuesday.

“DK’s legacy, jeez, you talk about a guy who loves this university, loves this state, loves this community, loves being a Gamecock, that’s him through and through,” Beamer said. “I can remember coaching at Georgia and going into the door at Fort Dorchester High School when he was a senior in high school and seeing him and meeting him and talking to him and what a great player he was in high school.”

Beamer praised Joyner for his work ethic and his ability to adjust to whatever the team needs.

“A guy that works hard, great spirit about himself all the time, has done so much for this team, whether it be on special teams, whether it be as a quarterback, wide receiver, running back,” Beamer said. “He’s just a really good football player, but a great young man that wants to give back to this state and this community. He wants to make our program better on and off the field.”

Joyner has racked up 440 yards and 9 touchdowns in his career with South Carolina, with this season being his best so far. He’s looking to close out the season with a win and secure another game for South Carolina as the Gamecocks take on Clemson on Saturday.
