Georgia athlete Shawn Smith announces decommitment from South Carolina

The Gamecocks are down a player for the Class of 2017.

Shawn Smith, a 3-star athlete from Brunswick High School in Georgia, announced his decommitment on Twitter Tuesday afternoon, stating that he felt he was no longer in the team’s plans.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound athlete was projected to play wide receiver for the Gamecocks. Smith is rated the No. 31 athlete prospect for the Class of 2017 and the No. 49 overall prospect from the state of Georgia.

South Carolina currently has 21 commitments for their 2017 class, which is ranked sixth in the SEC.
