South Carolina beats out Miami to sign Florida DB

South Carolina’s first big early signing period get comes with Florida cornerback Johnny Dixon choosing South Carolina over Miami.

Listed at 6-feet, 170 pounds, Dixon is a 3-star recruit rated the No. 45 cornerback and No. 55 Florida recruit on the 247Sports Composite. He 19 total scholarship offers with the Gamecocks and Hurricanes emerging as the final two.

The Chamberlain (Tampa) product told Gamecocks Central that his familiarity with Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, who have both long recruited the Sunshine State, gave South Carolina the edge over Miami.

“I’ve known them since I was 15, 14,” he said. “They were my first offer and stuck with me throughout the whole process.”
