The South Carolina Gamecocks made the decision to cancel an upcoming non-conference road game on Tuesday afternoon.

According to East Carolina AD Jeff Compher, South Carolina won’t travel to Greenville to take on the Pirates in 2019:

Cancelling the game will result in a $1 million penalty for the Gamecocks, and it is unclear what South Carolina plans to do with the open date on the 2019 schedule.

The Gamecocks and Pirates are scheduled to play in Columbia in 2020 and in Greenville in 2021. The status of those two games is uncertain at this point.

The Gamecocks earned a narrow 20-15 win over ECU at Williams-Brice Stadium in 2016.

  • Really confused by this. Sure do wish we could put that $1m into something more useful than indecision

    • I don’t think it is indecision as much as a change of heart/status. Major programs in the SEC don’t do home and homes with P5 schools. The only exception could be for recruiting. Muschamp must have his big boy pants on and wants to be like one of the big boys. Nothing really wrong with that. Plus, schools make much more for home games.

      • There are all kinds of exceptions to what you are trying to state as if they are facts. BTW, when did the ECU become a P5 team? I guess LSU isn’t a Major program since they have recently scheduled @BYU, @Wisconsin and @Syracuse. Just because bama has not been scheduling P5 home and home games for a while now doesn’t mean it’s best or even good for the sport or fans. Missing the experience of visiting places like Happy Valley, the Big House, the Rose Bowl, and denying the visiting fans of major P5 teams the experience of our own SEC stadiums is a bad trend.

  • I don’t get why we play ecu so much anyway. We have plenty of old acc rivals that make sense, is much rather have a bigger game like va tech or Miami, somebody that could help out recruiting. Nobody wants to come to the sec for big games against ecu
