One day after being fired by first-year Will Muschamp, longtime equipment manager Chris Matlock shared a positive update via his Facebook account.

Matlock was referring to Ray Tanner, South Carolina’s former baseball coach and current athletics director. Matt Connolly of The State confirmed with Tanner that Matlock will remain on staff with the athletics department.

Former USC coach Lou Holtz orginally hired Matlock in 2000.

Matlock’s post and The State’s report do not address the status of Matlock’s staff, who were also dismissed Friday by Muschamp.
