The sack leader for the 2020 season did not need long in the NCAA transfer portal to find his new home.

After entering the portal on Tuesday, Jordan Strachan announced Wednesday that he is transferring from Georgia State to South Carolina. As a junior this season, Strachan tied for the national lead in sacks with 10.5 in 10 games. (Iowa State’s Will McDonald IV also recorded 10.5 sacks, in 12 games.)

The big question will obviously be if Strachan can find the same success against SEC offenses that he did against Sun Belt competition. This season, Georgia’s Azeez Ojulari led the SEC in sacks with 8.5 recorded in 10 games. South Carolina’s sack leader was Kingsley Enagbare, logging 6 sacks in 8 games. Enagbare recently announced he is returning for the 2021 season.

Coaching changes tend to produce some Year 1 growing pains, but the Gamecocks defense should be strong in rushing the passer this fall.
