South Carolina is down a defensive lineman following the bowl loss to Virginia.

Four-year junior Shameik Blackshear announced on social media that he was leaving the program. He finishes his Gamecocks’ career with 34 tackles and one sack. 2018 was his best season after making 27 tackles, and he started against Virginia and Akron.

The Bluffton, South Carolina, native was a prized signee in the class of 2015. He was rated a 4-star prospect and ranked as the nation’s No. 9 WDE and the state of South Carolina’s No. 2 overall prospect, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He signed with South Carolina originally over offers from Clemson and Georgia, among others.
