South Carolina reportedly hosting high-profile transfer DL on recruiting visit
South Carolina is hosting former Florida State defensive lineman Derrick McLendon on a visit this week, according to a report.
That’s per On3’s Pete Nakos and Matt Zenitz. McLendon started 12 games for the Noles last season but decided to enter the portal earlier this spring.

McLendon is in the portal as a graduate transfer, which means he is able to maintain his eligibility even though he is transferring outside of the NCAA’s designated windows.
McLendon recorded 7 sacks for the Noles over the past 2 seasons. He was primarily a starter for Florida State last year, but he may have slipped back into a reserve role in 2023 if he had chosen to stay in Tallahassee.
He would be a big pickup for South Carolina ahead of this upcoming season. The Gamecocks lost Gilber Edmond to the portal during the offseason after he had a breakout 2022 campaign. Edmond ended up transferring to FSU.
South Carolina is expected to remain aggressive in the transfer portal this spring. The next transfer window opens on April 15.
