South Carolina is known for its special-teams heroics, but the Gamecocks have been a bit subdued in that area this season. They had a successful onsides kick against North Carolina, but otherwise have been fairly pedestrian.

But on Saturday in the 2nd quarter, punter Kai Kroeger found Xavier Legette for a 32-yard completion on 4th down and 7 from the Gamecocks 28-yard line. The Gamecocks went 4 more plays, but were ultimately stopped at the Tennessee 32 when Spencer Rattler’s pass to Legette went for 1 yard on 4th down and 2.

It’s been a spirited atmosphere thus far in Neyland Stadium, as Tennessee’s “Dark Mode” uniforms fired up the crowd, and both teams were ready for revenge as they’ve split the last 2 meetings. Each home team has won, including last year’s South Carolina upset that derailed Tennessee’s College Football Playoff hopes.

Tennessee leads in yards so far with 214 to 145, but Joe Milton III has thrown an interception.
