Four-star offensive tackle Zechariah Owens is re-opening his commitment after he had committed to Clemson in early July.

The McDonough, Ga., product hasn’t listed a frontrunner, but On3 reported that he’s been looking into multiple programs and that South Carolina was among the contenders during the 1st round of the recruitment process.

Florida State, UCF and Penn State were also among the schools vying for the 6-5, 365-pound Owens.

Owens is the No. 191 overall prospect in the latest 247Sports Composite rankings for the class of 2023.

His latest decision was reportedly based on family, which is in the middle of moving. Owens is looking for a college that allows him to be closer to his family.

Clemson provided a family connection early on in the process, per On3:

“The reason why I decommitted was for my family’s sake,” Owens told On3. “I have nothing against Clemson at all. I just want to be near and close to my family, wherever they go, and stick beside them. I chose Clemson at first because of the family atmosphere. I’ve had to put my own (family) before that. I’m sorry if I let any fans or supporters down. Thank you for being beside me, and I hope you all support my decision.”
