South Carolina delivered a significant upset of No. 6 Kentucky last week. But then the Gamecocks didn’t make it in the latest AP Top 25, as they were the team with the most votes outside the 25.

On Tuesday, the Gamecocks delivered another SEC upset, this time at No. 5 Tennessee when the lock-down defense hamstrung the Vols for much of the game. That fueled the Gamecocks, as well as fans and media, to ramp up the chatter once more.

The Gamecocks trolled the Vols by re-posting ESPN’s “matchup predictor” which called for Tennessee to have a 92% chance to win the game. Then there was the famous Osborne Brothers performance of “Rocky Top” but it was replaced by the Gamecocks’ beloved anthem, “Sandstorm.”

Women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley weighed in: “Don’t rank us … we went ahead and beat another ranked team.”

South Carolina superfan Darius Rucker also added, “When are we gonna get some respect.”

College basketball insiders like Jon Rothstein and Jeff Borzello each said to watch out for the Gamecocks down the stretch. Borzello said the Tennessee win should end any debate about the rankings.

“You have to start talking about the Gamecocks as a bona fide contender for the SEC regular-season title,” Rothstein said on the CBS Sports Network. “They’re going up, up, up in the rankings!”
