South Carolina updates 2022 roster with jersey numbers for transfers, freshmen

South Carolina is gearing up for Year 2 of the Shane Beamer era.

After going 2-8 in 2020 under Will Muschamp and Mike Bobo, the Gamecocks posted a winning season in Year 1 with Beamer, capped by a 38-21 victory over North Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

The 2022 squad will feature Beamer’s first full-cycle recruiting class at South Carolina. Nineteen of the Gamecocks’ high school signees have now enrolled in Columbia. South Carolina recently updated its 2022 online roster with jersey numbers for freshmen enrollees who did not get a number in the spring.

Hale of McGranahan of The Big Spur highlighted the new jersey numbers.

Beamer signed 9 transfers as part of the 2022 class. The updated roster revealed numbers for 5 of them:

• WR Corey Rucker (Arkansas State) – No. 16
• TE Austin Stogner (Oklahoma) – No. 18
• RB Dante Miller (Columbia) – No. 25
• PK Jack Luckhurst (Arizona State) – No. 30
• TE Nate Adkins (East Tennessee State) – No. 44

Three returning players also have new numbers. Defensive back R.J. Roderick will wear No. 1. Edge defender Tyreek Johnson takes No. 10, Roderick’s old number. Wide receiver Jalen Brooks will sport No. 13.

South Carolina opens the 2022 season against Georgia State on Sept. 3.
