South Carolina's bowl destination officially announced
South Carolina is going bowling.
The SEC announced that South Carolina has been selected to play in the Gasparilla Bowl. The SEC announcement states it will be against a Conference USA opponent. College football insider Brett McMurphy of Stadium reports, per sources, that the Gamecocks will play UAB.
The Gamecocks finished the 2020 regular season on a three-game losing skid under interim head coach Mike Bobo. Under normal circumstances, South Carolina would not be going to a bowl game with a 2-8 record. The NCAA, however, waived all bowl eligibility requirements for the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
South Carolina has hired Shane Beamer as its new full-time head coach, but Bobo will be the head coach on Dec. 26 for the game in Tampa at Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It is set to air at noon ET on ABC.
The Gamecocks have a chance to snap a six-game losing streak, but it won’t come easy. UAB is 6-3 after its Conference USA championship win over Marshall on Friday.
UAB and South Carolina have met three times before, with the Gamecocks winning all three times.
South Carolina’s last postseason appearance was in the 2018 Belk Bowl. Will Muschamp’s squad lost to Virginia 28-0.
Never thought I would see the day a two win team went to a bowl. What a disgrace. Bowls are meaningless now.
The extra practice teams get make it worth playing.
The game is on Saturday. The two extra practices will be a huge help for this group…
Whaaaat?! Is Bono even still around? Do we have enough players willing to play? I bet none of them have touched the weight room in 2 weeks plus. This is going to be funny to watch.
Bobo
We have no chance of winning this game but by chance we do we should put a clown wig and balloons on the trophy.
Too bad the Wolverines aren’t available.
They were formidable and after beating the Russians they would have no problem handling the Dragons.
Bc just won the internet.
whoo hoo you are going to a bowlgame!!
At least they ain’t having to pay to go to Boise….
3 cans of corn or green beans gets you into the game!
All of SC’s proceeds will be going towards the final payment of Muschamp’s buyout.
You know, the teams that opted out and the bowls that cancelled might come out of this whole postseason as the smart ones. The bowls are going to lose money and the teams are going to lose money (that many don’t have). They do in a good year, so its anybody’s guess how bad it’ll be this year. This is a complete joke.
“80% of success is just showing up.”, Woody Allen. Love it!
I have seen it all. Why don’t Vanderbilt play in a bowl game? 2 wins gets you to a bowl game? Roll Tide
Everybody gets a juice box, a star, and a bowl invite.
To add to the craziness, Army is 9-2 and getting votes for the Top 25 and they’re staying home! Absolute lunacy!!!!
It’s dumb, but Carolina would be dumb to turn it down. They are starting at the bottom and the extra practice and game experience is a good thing for all the young ones they are going to play next season.
You’re right. I can see it both ways on the bowl or turning it down. I think the SEC pools it’s bowl revenues? Plus we need the practice. Our defense has been decimated and are a two win team which shouldn’t even get a whiff of a bowl chance.
I think the SEC expects teams to take a bowl invitation cause yes they do share the money.
Extra practices; how many can that really be with the game on Sat and does it even matter since its the remnants of the old regime running stuff still? If they are going to be doing anything right now I’d much rather see them giving more time to strength training and learning whatever the new system will be. All of this season needs to end and move on to 2021.
Beat UAB- Go Cocks!
