Steve Spurrier recently joined The Paul Finebaum Show to discuss South Carolina’s hiring of Marcus Lattimore.

The Gamecocks and head coach Will Muschamp are bringing Lattimore in as their director of player development.

Spurrier, who is now a Florida Athletics Ambassador, coached the Gamecocks from 2005 to 2015. During that time, Lattimore played running back for him at South Carolina — from 2010 to 2012.

The head ball coach knows him as well as anyone.

“Marcus Lattimore and Danny Wuerffel — two of the best, nicest, just everything … best players and sincere Christian young men that really want to help others in life,” Spurrier told Finebaum. “Marcus does a lot of speaking and really wants to help young men and women to just become the best they can be.

“Wonderful move for South Carolina, Will Muschamp and the university. Marcus is a special, wonderful person.”

Those are high remarks from a coach who has seen as many players come and go as just about anyone.
