Former South Carolina great Deebo Samuel has made quite a splash with the San Franciso 49ers. Now he’s reached the end zone for the first time.

Samuel caught a 2-yard TD pass from QB Jimmy Garoppolo as the 49ers opened a 31-10 lead against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. By late in the third quarter, Samuel had 5 catches for 87 yards, including a 39-yarder.

The second-round draft pick of the 49ers, 36th overall, comes from the Gamecocks, where he was a dual-threat special teams star and star wide receiver.

In 5 years at South Carolina, he had 148 catches for 2,076 yards and 16 touchdowns.

As a kick returner, he recorded 42 returns for 1,219 yards, a 29-yard average and 4 TDs. As a senior last year, he earned First-Team All-SEC honors after hauling in 62 catches for 882 yards and 11 TDs in 12 games.
