Skai Moore isn’t returning to the field this year.

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp set the record straight on the senior linebacker’s status during a Tuesday press conference. Moore has been medically cleared only to lift weights, Muschamp said after rumors about Moore’s potential return made the rounds Monday.

“Skai was cleared (Monday) to lift,” Muschamp said. “He’s been doing some light lifting and light running, but he was cleared yesterday to be able to go into the weight room and do any exercise he wants to do. Any of the running, change of direction, that’s it. There’s no contact, and that clearance will not come until January. That’s where we are right now.”

Moore, who was the Gamecocks’ leading tackler in each of the last three years, missed spring practice and was previously declared out for the entire season due to a herniated disk. Muschamp said the linebacker will redshirt this season and return in 2017.
