Will Muschamp had some unfortunate injury news to share with the media on Tuesday. Muschamp told reporters that junior DE Devontae Davis is dealing with a mid-foot sprain and will probably have to have surgery. If Davis does have surgery, it will probably keep him out for the 2019 season.

Muschamp used “probably” twice when discussing Davis, so there appears to be a chance, presumably a small chance, that Davis plays this season. It doesn’t sound good for the JUCO transfer from New Ellenton, South Carolina. The good news for the Gamecocks is that Muschamp sounds confident in the depth on the defensive line even with Davis out.

Davis joined the South Carolina roster prior to the team’s Belk Bowl prep. At Georgia Military College last season he logged 30 tackles in 10 games with 10 tackles for loss, four sacks and a fumble recovery. The 247Sports Composite rated him the No. 3 defensive end and No. 32 JUCO prospect overall.
